# Mock exams

> Generate timed, graded mock exams from your Studyflash course. Upload old exams as a template and get detailed AI feedback.

Mock exams simulate the pressure and format of a real test. Unlike per-deck quizzes, they draw from everything in a course: all your decks and source material combined.

What makes them special: you can upload actual old exams or example questions as a template. Studyflash matches both the structure and the question style of the real thing, a level of exam realism you will not find elsewhere.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Mock exams are generated at the **course** level. Keep all decks you want to be tested on in the
> same course.

## When to take a mock exam

Take your first one about a week before the real exam: late enough that you have covered the material, early enough to fix the gaps it reveals. Practicing under realistic conditions and time pressure also reduces exam anxiety and trains your pacing. After closing your gaps, take a fresh exam to confirm you are ready.

## Question types

* **Single choice** and **true / false**
* **Fill in the blank**: AI evaluates your typed answer
* **Short answer / essay**: open questions graded by AI against your material
* **Matching**: match terms to definitions
* **Computational**: numerical or formula-based problems

## Creating and taking a mock exam

**1. Open your course**

In your library, open the course and select the **Mock Exam** tab.

**2. Set it up**

Choose the question count, question types, and an optional time limit. Upload an old exam or
example questions if you have them; the generated exam mirrors their structure and style.

**3. Take the exam**

Click **Start Exam**. It opens in a focused full-screen view with a question map to navigate.
Submit when done (or when the timer runs out) and AI grades everything, including open answers.

## Your results

The results page shows your overall score, per-question feedback (your answer, the correct answer, and an AI explanation), and a topic breakdown so you know exactly where to focus next.

Want another shot? Click **New Exam** to take a fresh exam on the same material with different questions.
