# Mind maps

> Studyflash builds interactive mind maps from your deck, showing how concepts connect so you see the big picture.

Deep in a dense deck, it is easy to lose sight of how everything fits together. A mind map lays out the key concepts of your deck in a visual web: the central theme in the middle, branching out to topics, subtopics, and supporting details.

## When to use mind maps

Your brain remembers connected ideas better than isolated facts, and pairing words with a visual structure gives memory a second hook. Open the mind map before your first study session so new details have a framework to slot into, and again right before the exam for a rapid visual sweep of all major topics.

## Working with your mind map

Open the **Mind Map** tab on a deck to generate yours. It takes a few seconds for smaller decks, up to a minute for large ones.

* **Zoom and pan**: scroll to zoom, drag the background to move around.
* **Expand and collapse**: click the arrow on a node to hide or show its children.
* **Node details**: click a concept to open a panel with a short explanation and links to the related flashcards.
* **Colors**: right-click a node to change its color and group related themes.
