# Import Anki decks

> Import your existing Anki .apkg decks into Studyflash and keep studying with spaced repetition.

If you have built decks in Anki, you do not have to start from scratch. Studyflash reads your exported `.apkg` file and brings your cards into a Studyflash deck, ready for flashcard study and spaced repetition.

## What import supports

* **`.apkg` files**: the standard Anki package format.
* **`.txt` exports**: tab-separated text files (front and back separated by a tab).
* **Basic and cloze cards**: cloze cards become fill-in-the-blank flashcards.

> [!NOTE]
>
> HTML formatting is stripped so cards display cleanly; the text itself is fully preserved. Images
> and audio in cards are not imported.

## Import your deck

**1. Export from Anki**

In Anki, select your deck and go to **File → Export**. Choose **Anki Deck Package (.apkg)** and
uncheck **Include scheduling information**.

**2. Upload the file in Studyflash**

Click **+ New**, drag the `.apkg` file into the **Upload** tab. Studyflash detects the Anki
format and shows a preview of your cards.

**3. Confirm**

Check the preview, pick a workspace and course, name the deck, and click **Create deck**. Cards
import instantly.

## Good to know

* Each `.apkg` file becomes one deck; sub-decks are merged. Export decks separately to keep them separate.
* Anki's scheduling data (intervals, ease factors) is not imported; Studyflash uses its own spaced repetition.
* Import fails? Export from Anki 2.1 or later with default settings and try again.
